Hola,

I hate numbers and thinking about them. Numbers kill fantasy, magic, and are constantly challenging my favorite mental disorder: delusion. Last week, I spent four days, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., between waiting on the phone for hours and visiting my bank's local branch, trying to fix an error they made when I opened a new (second) account with them. I first called over the phone and selected the Spanish language option because it's hard for me to understand other English accents like mine over the phone, especially when it's number-related. However, after a few hours, nobody at the bank could explain why I couldn’t have two different profiles for my two separate accounts. According to their tech team, the bank’s app cannot distinguish between two different accounts if they’re opened on the same phone. At one point, I went to the bank’s office, and the man in charge actually suggested I should get a new phone and phone number to access the two accounts independently. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? We have rockets in space, and yet a simple bank app can’t handle two different users on one phone.

I’m re-reading that first paragraph, and I recognize that it’s messy, and that the bank situation is hard to understand, but I’m leaving it as is because that’s the person I become when I’m faced with numbers and money—messy! Thinking about money, Excel sheets, percentages, filling out forms, or anything that involves numbers makes my blood boil. I get anxious, overwhelmed, and small. If I were in a shoot, and someone broke into the studio, stabbed me, and stole my camera, I can assure you I would remain calm, collected, and find a solution within minutes without the team noticing anything. BUT if you tell me I have to fill out a form online, or think about how much to charge for a project, my brain would immediately collapse, and I would probably disregard the project entirely or simply say no to those supposedly incredible TSA pre-check benefits.

But how does this relate to Shakira? Lol… It may sound like a stretch, but it’s not. Here’s why:
